Ghaziabad man is fined Rs 26,000 after video of bike stunt surfaces

GHAZIABAD: Traffic police have fined the owner of a motorcycle Rs 26,500 after a video of a man performing stunts on the bike in the middle of the Wave City road was circulated online.

In the 19-second video, a man — believed to be in late 40s, sporting yellow shoes and white kurta-pyjama — can be seen standing on a moving bike and later sitting cross-legged while a Punjabi song plays in the background.

Ghaziabad traffic police were alerted about the video by netizens. On Friday, they traced the bike to its owner. “The video was shot around 1.27pm on Thursday on an interior road in Wave city road along NH9. We have fined the owner of the vehicle Rs 26,500 after it was found that the man performing bike stunts was guilty on six counts of the Motor Vehicle Act,” said Ramanand Kushwaha, superintendent of police (traffic).

It is not clear if the owner of the bike was the one performing the stunts, he added. “The bike is registered in the name of Abhinav Kumar and e-challan has been sent to the owner. But it is still not clear whether the man performing the stunt was the owner,” Kushwaha said.

In the last 15 days, the traffic department has issued challans to nine people for performing stunts on roads in their cars and bikes. Four days back, a youngster ws fined Rs 5,000 after he was seen sitting on the roof of a moving car on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

Last year, two women in their early 20s were spotted performing stunts on their bike. One of them sat on the other’s shoulder while riding. The SP spoke about a trend of youngsters violating traffic rules in the “craze to upload videos” on social media. “This has emerged as a serious problem as it endangers lives of people on the road. We have plans to crackdown on such violators,” he added.
