Ghaziabad man cheated of Rs 3 lakh by trading company

GHAZIABAD: A Ghaziabad resident has been allegedly cheated of over Rs 3 lakh by a Gujarat-based trading firm on the pretext of huge returns in a cryptocurrency scheme, the police said on Friday.

The accused have been identified as Gordhan Bhai Patel, director of Squeaks Technology Services (OPC) Pvt Ltd, his son Neel Patel, Nobat Singh, manager of the company, and Akhlesh Singh, another official of the company.

Complainant Vineet Nagar told the police that in December 2020, he met Neel on Twitter and asked him for a job in trading.

“I had given him Rs 45,000 for the job. Initially, he gave us an online class on trading. But after three months, when we asked him about the salary he said that would be given once I will complete my training,” he said.

During the training period, Neel told the victim about a Cryptocurrency Return On Investment plan and promised him huge returns on investments.

“I had invested nearly Rs 3.5 lakh in the scheme for three months. He had promised to double the amount,” the victim said.

“But once the time period got over, I asked about the money. Each time, he would give a new date. After some time, I came to know that there are over 500 people who had invested in the same scheme. They didn’t even give me the job,” he said. The accused also gave death threats to Vineet.

SP (City-1) Nipurn Aggarwal said an FIR has been lodged against four people under the section of 420 (cheating) and 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust) of IPC. “An investigation is under way,” he said.
