GHAZIABAD: The Ghaziabad district and sessions court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment, over two decades after he murdered his brother-in-law. Muradnagar resident Bablu Singh killed Jitendra Kumar in 2000. His accomplice Yashpal died during the trial.
The victim married Bablu’s sister Poonam in Meerut in 1990. The couple developed differences and in August 1999, Jitendra married another woman, Babita. Due to this, Bablu had a grudge against Jitendra.
Babita told the court that she used to live with her elder sister Subhlesh and her husband Dharamveer Malik before her marriage to Jitendra. “Yashpal, Dharamveer’s nephew, also lived in the neighbourhood. He wanted to marry me. When I refused his advances and married Jitendra, he developed an enmity against my husband and I,” she said.
According to a complaint by Pramod Kumar, the husband of Jitendra’s sister, Bablu and Yashpal hatched the murder plan. They shot Jitendra on February 13, 2000, when he was going to Delhi from Ghaziabad on a motorcycle with Babita. A case was registered against the duo under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), as well as under Section 25 of the Arms Act at Kavi Nagar police station.
Police arrested the two men on February 22 and recovered the murder weapon from their possession. Sunil Prasad, additional district and sessions judge, Ghaziabad, observed that there was strong evidence against the duo. Bablu was sentenced to life imprisonment.
