GHAZIABAD: A 38-year-old property dealer allegedly stabbed his banker wife multiple times and then slit her throat with a kitchen knife before attempting to end his life by jumping off the terrace of their house in Vasundhara’s Sector 15 on Friday afternoon. The accused, however, survived with injuries to both his legs as he fell onto the boundary wall grill of their house, and has been admitted to hospital, police said.
The deceased, Kamya Meena, is a manager with a Bank of Baroda branch in Ghaziabad. Primary investigation, police said, has indicated a slump in the business of Vikas, the accused, post-Covid, and Kamya was meeting the family expenses. The couple had a heated argument over the issue on Friday, following which Vikas stabbed his wife at least 20 times, according to cops.
Vikas and Kamya tied the knot in 2011. Their two sons — Gurvit (8) and Rudra (3) — and Vikas’ 65-year-old father Jagdish Prakash were inside the house at the time of the crime, while Vikas’ mother had stepped out for some work, police said.
Devpal Singh, SHO of Indirapuram police station, said they got information about the crime from Jagdish around 12.45pm. “A police team immediately reached the house. We found Kamya lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen while Vikas was stuck in the iron grill of the boundary wall, We rushed the couple to the nearest hospital where Kamya was declared dead on arrival. Vikas is being treated there and slated to undergo a surgery on Saturday,” he said.
Initial investigation has revealed that Kamya and Vikas had been fighting since Thursday evening.
Family members said that Vikas was, in fact, working with a private bank in Noida but left the job in 2016 to do something big in his life. The same year, he started working as a property dealer in the locality but suffered huge losses during Covid.
