GHAZIABAD: A 35-year-old man was sentenced to eight years in jail for the abduction and rape of a teenager, who was his neighbour in Loni area of the city, in 2011.
The 16-year-old girl was reported missing by her father on November 16 that year and the complaint for filed a few days later. As the family was searching for the girl, they found that the neighbour too was missing at the time.
The girl was found by the police at the house of a relative of the neighbour in December. that year. The teenager, who was doing a course as a beautician in 2011, told the court the man intercepted her while she was going to the market and threatened to harm her and her family if she didn’t accompany him.
Jaiveer Singh Nagar, additional district judge of Ghaziabad fast track court (I) on Tuesday sentenced the man to eight years of imprisonment under sections 376 (rape), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage), 363 (kidnapping) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. The court also fined him Rs 7,000.
