By air: Athens airport is the main hub for travel onwards to the islands. Prices for easyJet flights to and from Luton and Athens range from £47.50 to £177.50 and can be bought online at www.easyjet.co.uk or on 0870 6 000 000. British Airways has special World Offers to Athens from £153, but return flights are usually over £200. Call 0845 773 3377 or try www.british-airways.com. Olympic Airways (0870 606 0460 or www.olympic-airways.gr) fly from Heathrow to Athens three times daily (from £209) and from Gatwick to Thessalonika once a day. They also handle most of the internal flights.
By sea: Few islands have airports so most travel between islands is done by ferry. The major operators have websites, which are worth checking for up-to-date prices and routes. Try: www.agapitos-ferries.gr; www.anek.gr; www.minoan.gr; www.strintzis.gr; and www.ventouris.gr
The Greek Island Hopping 2000 guidebook from Thomas Cook (£12.99) has timetables and maps for all ferry routes, as well as information on most of the islands and accommodation details.
