TV presenter Grace Woodward has said that getting married is the biggest leap of faith someone can make in a relationship.
Speaking to The Independent’s dating and relationships podcast, “Millennial Love“, the body positivity campaigner described marriage as “bonkers”.
“You sort of think that you are going to promise to be with this person for the rest of your life, that’s almost impossible these days anyway,” said Woodward, who married IT consultant Ken Drewery in 2012.
Woodward went on to point out that many of the traditions we uphold regarding marriage are outdated.
“I’ve been looking at wedding vows,” she said. “That whole thing ‘til death do us part’ was written in the 14th century when people died at thirty.
“So it’s like, what happens when you get past 30 and you’re like oh s***,” Woodward added before pointing out that she got married at the age of 37.
“They’re really ancient vows and so we’re not equipped with what we’re signing up to.”
Regarding her own marriage, Woodward said she felt pressured to get married as a woman in television and were she to do it again, she would have gone about her nuptials entirely differently.
"Looking back on it, I never would've spent the money," she said. "And I wouldn't have been so pressured by society if I wasn't in the pressure cooker of being in the public eye."
