Getting Christmas decorations up this month could be good for your health, according to psychologists

Putting Christmas decorations up months early may actually be good for your health.

Psychologists suggest that getting revved up for the festive period in September could evoke warm memories of childhood magic.

After all, the shops are already selling mince pies, Christmas markets have revealed their opening days and the supermarkets are filming their ads for the festive season, reports HullLive.

Psychoanalyst Steve McKeown said: "Although there could be a number of symptomatic reasons why someone would want to obsessively put up decorations early, most commonly for nostalgic reasons either to relive the magic or to compensate for past neglect.

The kids are sure to love this. (Getting ready for Christmas in September could be good for you!)

He added: "In a world full of stress and anxiety people like to associate to things that make them happy and Christmas decorations evoke those strong feelings of the childhood.

"Decorations are simply an anchor or pathway to those old childhood magical emotions of excitement. So putting up those Christmas decorations early extends the excitement!"

So while there are still months to go, and Halloween to get past first, it may be time to start sneaking down those baubles from the loft.
