Getting a job in sport: How to turn your passion into a rewarding career

Do you love sport? Do you dream of turning your passion into a career? Join Guardian sports journalist and author Emma John for a practical Masterclass to find out how to combine your knowledge and skills, and potentially find a job within this massive global industry.

Throughout the day you’ll hear from a range of inspirational speakers, including Radio 2 sports presenter Matt Williams and cricket writer Jarrod Kimber, who will each give an hour presentation offering tips and advice. There’ll be opportunities to talk one-to-one to the speakers and to ask questions. They’ll offer advice on identifying the skills you need to work in different parts of the industry, how to build up your sporting CV and how to pitch yourself to potential employers.

Some of the subjects covered…

  • The art of broadcasting: is TV or radio right for you?
  • PR and sponsorship: a smart way to work with the stars
  • Social media: how to make blogging, vlogging and podcasting pay
  • Publishing: tips for budding sportswriters and why you don’t have to be a wordsmith to make it in newspapers, magazines and books
  • Administration: why sport needs more, and better, governance and how you can get involved
  • Your chance to ask questions
