‘Gets into your head’ - Everton player named 'most annoying' in the Premier League

Yerry Mina has been named the most annoying player in the Premier League, by Wolves striker Fabio Silva.

Standing at 6ft 5ins, the Everton defender is a giant presence at the back for the Blues, combining supreme strength in the air with hefty tackling.

A vocal leader, Mina constantly roars words of encouragement to his team-mates and is a well-liked member of the squad.

Always smiling and joking at Finch Farm, the centre-back keeps morale high.

However, it seems playing with him and against him are two very different experiences.

A constant menace for attackers, Wolves forward Silva has labelled Mina his toughest opponent in the Premier League, having come up against the Colombian as Everton defeated Wolves 1-0 in May.

“Mina from Everton – he was the most annoying one I came up against,” Silva revealed in an interview with FourFourTwo.

“He’s Colombian, so I think it’s part of his culture to try to get into your head; play mind games; say things to provoke you.

“But I’m calm on the pitch and don’t pay attention!”

Silva is not the only one who has been irked by Mina’s antics in the heat of battle on the pitch.

Last month, during Everton’s 2-2 draw with Leeds, the defender made a nuisance of himself as he attempted to get the better of Patrick Bamford.

As the Leeds frontman challenged Mina for the ball close to the Everton goal, the defender backed into the striker before falling back and holding his ear after the attacker had grappled with him.

Mina then fell back again before opting to protect the ball by dropping to the ground and laying on top of it. Somehow, amid all of the theatrics, he managed to maintain his composure to get back up, shepherding the ball out of harm’s way and booting it clear.

As Mina whacked the ball down the line, Bamford, who had looked bemused throughout, was late with his tackle and the two fell to the floor.

As the Leeds frontman held his arm, Mina waved his arms in the air before grabbing Bamford and appearing to nuzzle the striker’s side with his head.

Like two pantomime villains, there appeared no real malice and Bamford didn’t score so for Mina, it was job done.

The defender also wound up the home fans at Elland Road as he danced with penalty scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

A year-and-a-half earlier, Mina pulled off similar moves after scoring a brace at Watford, much to the chagrin of the Hornets home support who then had to see their team concede a last-minute Everton winner.

Mina may be the most irritating player in the Premier League, but those antics against the opposition are the reason he is so adored by Blues.
