Gethin Jones says he was 'really scared' about rumours during 'odd few days'

BBC One's Morning Live presenter Gethin Jones, who hails from Cardiff, has spoken about the current BBC presenter scandal after his name was wrongly mentioned in rumours. It has been confirmed that a male BBC presenter has been suspended after he has been accused of paying a teenager £35,000 for explicit images.

The presenter has not yet been named causing there to be lots of rumours on social media as the public attempt to guess who it is. This has led to a lot of names being suggested, including Gethin's, which he said made him feel "really scared". Talking on Morning Live Gethin, who was off air while at a friend's wedding on Monday, July 10, said he felt the need to stress he was off air because he was at a wedding. He said: "On Sunday night I saw my name being spread on social media but then I'm thinking, what do I do? I don't normally react on social media but in this instance, I'm going to have to say something so instead of just writing a post about 'hey I'm at the wedding having a great time' I felt I had to be really specific by saying and I'm off on Friday and Monday because I wasn't on air on Monday morning."

"I was really scared at that point because when you see your name associated with something that is such a serious allegation, it wasn't really a nice place to be so it's been a really odd few days." There has been mounting pressure for the BBC to name the presenter at the centre of the scandal after several high-profile celebrities were forced to deny the allegations themselves after people made false and defamatory claims about them on social media.
