A pair of workers on wooden boats pluck buds from junsai edible water plants at a pond in Mitane, Akita Prefecture, on Thursday. The plant is popular for its sleek texture, with Mitane accounting for 90 percent of junsai production in Japan. The junsai harvest began as usual at the beginning of May and will continue through August.
