Get us to the beer garden - Smirnoff is launching fruit-infused vodka

Flavoured gin was a huge trend last year, boosting sales of the beverage to record highs.

But vodka is set to be this year's summertime tipple, as Smirnoff has announced a fruit-infused version of the spirit.

The Mirror reports that Smirnoff Infusions will come in two flavours - "Orange, Grapefruit & Bitters" and "Raspberry, Rhubarb & Vanilla".

It will retail for £14 a bottle, and the recommendation is to mix one part fruity vodka with three parts soda water and a lot of ice.

Sarah Shimmons, the brand’s marketing manager for Europe, said: “Smirnoff Infusions is an exciting new addition to our portfolio in the UK.

“The process features real fruits infused and distilled individually for the perfect amount of time to allow their natural flavours to be extracted. The resulting drink is blended with Smirnoff No. 21 Vodka and crafted at 23% ABV, to ensure the perfect balance of natural and fruity flavours.”

The even better news is a serving works out at just 87 calories.

The bottles have more fruit, and less vodka, than standard Smirnoff - at 23% ABV - meaning the mixed drink comes in at 5.75%, or about the same as a strong cider or beer.

As to when it will hit the shelves? Wholesalers are listing it already and reports say that shoppers should be able to buy it from June.
