We're aiming for a glamorous dark take on the vampire look that's popular at the moment thanks to the film Twilight. I start off by applying a natural concealer all over my lips to give an even colour and create a neutral canvas. Then I add a coating of Mac's Studio Finish loose face powder so the colour holds.Photograph: Rui Faria/GuardianNext, outline the lips. We don't want them to appear really plump; we're aiming for a slim shape - so stick to your natural outline. If anything, make them look smaller. I've gone for Urban Decay's Glide-On lip pencil in Medium Berry.Photograph: Rui Faria/GuardianNow fill in with any juicy red lip colour, as long as it's shiny. I've applied the lipstick direct, but if you want a more precise line, it's always better to use a lip liner brush to keep the colour exactly within the outline.Photograph: Rui Faria/Guardian
Use a cool-tone foundation and keep eyes neutral or it can end up looking too overdone. Finally, I've used Mac's Tinted Lipglass in Russian Red to add that just-bitten appearance.Photograph: Rui Faria/Guardian
