'Get the deal done' - Chelsea fans react as Liverpool make big Timo Werner transfer decision

Chelsea were expected to be busy in the summer transfer window.

That was before the coronavirus crisis at least.

Finances have been hit hard at all clubs across the UK, with transfer spends likely to be less than in previous windows as a result of the pandemic that has brought football to a half for two months.

The Blues have already dipped their toe into the transfer market prior to the pandemic, with Ajax star Hakim Ziyech signing a deal to become Frank Lampard's first signing since arriving as head coach at Stamford Bridge.

But will there be anyone joining the Moroccan this summer? Will Roman Abramovich release funds for Lampard to further strengthen his squad?

The Blues have been linked with a number of new players, namely big-money signings like Jadon Sancho and Kai Havertz from Germany.

And there is another player doing the business in the Bundesliga that Chelsea have been heavily linked with - striker Timo Werner.

Werner has been a star performer in an impressive RB Leipzig side that have made it through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League this season.

He has been tipped to make a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea and Liverpool both keen to sign him this summer.

However, Liverpool have reportedly dropped out of the race to sign the frontman, who has a £50million release clause - a figure the reds are not willing to meet.

And that has got Chelsea fans excited.

Lampard would like to add another striker to his squad, with Tammy Abraham chosen to lead the line for the majority of this season.

Olivier Giroud has had his contract extended by a year, but with Michy Batshuayi expected to leave, Werner could be the perfect choice to challenge Abraham for a starting spot.
