Britney Spears has announced her engagement to her long-term boyfriend Sam Asghari.

The pair have been together since meeting on the set of the singer’s “Slumber Party” music video in 2016.

Sharing the news with her 34 million followers on Instagram, the “Toxic” singer uploaded a cute video showing off her ring with the caption “I can’t f**king believe it!” along with several ring emojis.

Well-wishers included musician Willie Gomez, socialite Paris Hilton, and RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage.

Asghari also shared a picture to his timeline of the couple kissing, with Spears showing off her ring to the camera.

On his Instagram story, he wrote: “My phone exploded today! Thank you for the overwhelming love and congratulations! We both love every single one of you!”

He also reshared the video of Spears showing off her ring, and added the caption: “Still can’t believe it!”

The ring is engraved with “lioness” on the inside of the band, as this is Asghari’s nickname for the singer.

Fans took to social media to congratulate the star, with some saying it was iconic for her to announce her engagement on the same day as the Video Music Awards.

Some fans are overprotective of the “Stronger” singer and hope that she’ll arrange a prenup.

Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer commented: “Make him sign a prenup.”

Another fan commented: “Still don’t know about the dude Sam so protect your assets Britney! Make sure to get that prenup girl!”

On his Instagram story, Asghari poked fun at fans who urged the pair to organise a prenup, saying: “Of course we’re getting iron-clad prenup to protect my jeep and shoe collection in case she dumps me one day.” [sic] along with two laughing emojis.

The couple’s engagement news comes just four days after the singer’s father Jamie filed a court petition to end the conservatorship arrangement that has been in place for more than a decade. A hearing is due to take place on 29th September.
