Get sweet summer lips

Burt's Bees has been synonymous with lip care since 1991, when Roxanne Quimby made a lip balm based on a recipe she found in a 19th century farmer's journal.

Seven years beforehand Quimby met US beekeeper Burt Shavitz while hitching a ride from him in Maine. They partnered in making candles from unused beeswax, and the bearded and free spirited Shavitz became the namesake of Burt's Bees.

From a rural operation, Burt's Bees relocated to Durham, North Carolina, in 1994, and expanded its business to natural skincare and personal care products.

Today the company responsibly sources beeswax from around the world, such as those wild-harvested in Tanzania and from backyard beekeepers in Vietnam.

The classic Beeswax Lip Balm conditions the lips with the natural ingredient as well as moisturising Vitamin E while a hint of peppermint oil provides a refreshing tingle.

This summer, new additions to the range include Watermelon and Sweet Mandarin Moisturising Lip Balms, respectively featuring watermelon seed extract and mandarin orange fruit extract.

The 100% natural origin formulas also contain shea butter, cocoa seed butter as well as sunflower seed and coconut oils among other ingredients.

Instead of fruits, the Tinted Lip Balm is inspired by flowers, such as rose, hibiscus, daisy and magnolia. The floral concept encompasses the ingredients with waxes from ylang-ylang and jasmine flowers enriching the formulation.
