Get set for City star Jamie Allsopp's new pub

Decorators are this week putting the finishing touches on a new business venture by star City fund manager Jamie Allsopp: a pub.

Yes, that’s right, the former Insparo Asset Management partner opted for a career change during the pandemic, swapping hedge funds for reviving his family’s old beer brand, Allsopp’s Ale.

Its first pub will open next month in London’s swanky Kensington Church Street, next-door to the famous Churchill Arms, to become the fourth public house on the street.

Spy can’t wait for the launch party, which will no doubt be bursting with sloshed City fund mangers. Let’s hope it goes better than a financier’s charity ball once attended by his former Insparo colleague Joe Delvaux, who ended up getting smashed over the head with a Budweiser bottle after an altercation with a hedge fund rival; he required six stitches.

If you’re involved in politics, it’s best to steer clear of the Allsopp pub. The site, previously known as the Kensington Wine Rooms, became the starting point for the FBI's investigation into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia in 2016, after Trump’s foreign policy adviser told a diplomat he had been given ‘dirt’ on Hillary Clinton over a glass or three of red.
