Get ready to see this Martha Stewart-designed rattan stool in your most stylish friends' kitchens this fall – it's one of the best pieces she's designed

Martha Stewart.

Rattan is one of those rare materials that I'll never tire of seeing or writing about. This beautiful weave looks just as perfect in a retro-inspired living room as it does in an ultra-modern kitchen, or an East Hampton home, as Martha Stewart's Lily Pond Lane home reminds us.

Most of Martha Stewart's collection at Wayfair is designed with her Lily Pond estate in mind, but it's hard to find a piece as visually stunning as her Playa Rattan Counter Stool.

I've lost count of how many rattan decor pieces I've written about this year – the figure is likely in the hundreds. However, I can't remember the last time I saw a piece that I was immediately drawn to as quickly as this stool.

Counter stools are not conventionally at the top of my wish list, but this piece has shown me just how stylish they can be. While Martha (and many others) have designed accent chairs and outdoor bistro sets with rattan, this is the first time I've seen it used on a counter stool. I've already sent this piece to my coolest friends, and, like me, they're ready to introduce it to their kitchen.

As a celebrity style editor, I've seen rattan appearing around the homes of the most famous people worldwide. However, it's a trend that's certainly not slowing down for 2026, as interior expert Lena Gierasinska reassures.

'Rattan has seen a major resurgence in recent years, and its popularity shows no signs of fading. It offers natural texture, a relaxed, bohemian vibe, and effortlessly bridges the gap between contemporary and vintage styles,' she says.

Plus, while our thoughts may be turning towards fall decor, we're not quite ready to say goodbye to outdoor living just yet. If you live in a climate where you can enjoy a warmer climate for a few more weeks (or even months), then these stools will look just as perfect in an outdoor kitchen or bar.

'Its rising popularity also reflects the growing trend of blending indoor and outdoor living. More people want their outdoor spaces to feel just as comfortable and stylish as their interiors, creating a seamless flow between inside and outside,' Lena comments.

'Rattan’s natural look and tactile quality make it an ideal material to bridge these spaces, helping to create a cohesive and relaxed environment.'
