Keir Starmer has been banned from a pub in Bath while on a walkabout in the city.
The Labour leader was barracked by a pub landord after having had an exchange with him in the street outside about the covid pandemic.
In scenes caught on camera Rod Humphris, landlord of the Raven pub located in the centre of Bath, appeared to be held back by Labour minders after Starmer walked into the pub.
It seems that Starmer did not realise he had been talking to the landlord before entering the premises.
The landlord shouted “that man is not allowed in my pub ” and “get out of my pub” after Starmer ended a conversation with him and walked into the pub.
With the landlord being restrained by a protection officer Starmer, wearing a black face mask, walked out of the door.
The Labour leader handed a pair of spectacles to the outraged landlord as he departed .
On why he kicked the Labour leader out of the pub, the 54-year-old told the PA news agency: “I had heard that the Labour Party were coming round and he turned up and I told him what I thought of him, basically."
“I think he has utterly failed us as the leader of the Opposition, he has completely failed to ask the questions that needed asking, like, why did we throw away our previous pandemic preparedness?"
He added: “Why have we just accepted lockdown? Why have we just accepted the loss of all our freedoms?”
Starmer later told reporters that he and the man “profoundly disagree” over the issue of lockdown.
He said: “Well look, somebody approached me, and from what I could understand he profoundly thought we shouldn’t have had a lockdown, we shouldn’t have restrictions, and I’m not sure he really thought there was a pandemic.
“He’s entitled to that view. I profoundly disagree with him. I think the vast majority of people in Bath and across the country profoundly disagree with him.
““I don’t because my wife works in the NHS and I know the impact on her hospital of the virus and how close it was to being overwhelmed.”
He added: “He took different view. I profoundly disagree.”
