Get Jack Colback back and he can make Ryan Yates and Ben Osborn better players for Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest are keen to get Jack Colback back next season, but have drawn up a list of alternatives in case they can't get him from Newcastle again.

That's sensible because there are no guarantees he will come back to the City Ground, with Southampton's Harrison Reed a possible alternative.

Colback is a good player, who is willing to put his foot in. He's definitely a player Forest need to get back if they can.

If you are looking at who were Forest's best players last season the Joe Lolley was clearly out in front, but Colback would be second on the list.

He can sit in front of the back four and is capable of playing a bit further forwards when given the chance.

On top of that, he is someone who can pass on knowledge to younger players. Ben Osborn could learn from him and so could Ryan Yates.

Yates in particular is a similar kind of player, so a full year working with Colback would benefit him.

Forest have a lot of central midfielders, but Colback was the best of them last season.

With so many players available in that position, it means Liam Bridcutt looks likely to go.

He was linked with Peterborough today and I can see it being a good move for everyone.

When I saw him a few years ago at Leeds he looked a good player and I was happy when he signed in 2017.

When he came to Forest, he didn't impress me very much at all, which is surprising because he'd done really well at Championship level previously.

There is the question of whether he would go to a League One club, but Peterborough is fairly local to Nottingham so he wouldn't have to uproot his family.

Also, if he has a good spell at Peterborough then a Championship club would probably come in for him.
