'Get it done!' - Chelsea fans send Marina Granovskaia message amid major contract update

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is nearing a contract extension at the club, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The 37-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, but has been a key part of the Blues defence since joining on a free transfer last season, going on to win the Champions League following his arrival.

As a result of his importance to the side, Thomas Tuchel and the Chelsea hierarchy have looked to quickly resolve his contract issue by offering him another one-year deal until the end of 2023.

Silva is one of four defenders whose deal at Stamford Bridge expires next summer, with Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta all out of contract too.

Academy graduate Trevoh Chalobah was another who was set to leave at the end of the season, but he signed a new deal last month that runs until 2026.

On Silva’s contract situation, Romano said on Twitter: “Thiago Silva contract extension with Chelsea is not in doubt. It’s just about paperworks to be prepared and signed in the coming weeks/months. He’s gonna stay until June 2023.

“Still no big chances on Rüdiger situation. No agreement with Chelsea, Real Madrid pushing.”

Chelsea fans took to social media afterwards to discuss the news and the potential of Silva staying another year.

@Abdisalaam25: Greatest Defender of all time.

@CFCArty_: The only one i didn't want to leave. The other 2 can go idc. If we get Kounde and/or Fofana we would replace them with even better players.

@_CFCLiam2: THIAGOOOOOOOOO.

@CfcSean6: Ohhhh Thiago silva.

@KepaCleanSheet: GET INNNNN.

don-m: Our best cb

m_lar: Brilliant player, great influence to have around the club no matter how much he plays. Get it done!

Hogwartsfrozen: Great to see him stay longer. Would love to see news elsewhere to make this a less tense run up to the new year!
