'Get it away from me!' Susanna Reid taunts Piers Morgan with vegan Cornish pasty

Piers Morgan has found a new target in his anti-vegan crusade: a vegan ‘Corn-ish’ pasty from Morrisons.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, who is famously averse to plant-based substitutes, was introduced to the new launch by his co-host Susanna Reid live on this morning’s show.

“This is your vegan breakfast this morning,” Reid said as she waved a plate piled with the vegan delicacies towards her co-star. “This is from Morrisons, they have provided us very kindly with a Corn-ish pasty.”

An unimpressed Morgan grimaced and claimed that the product “stinks” before adding: “It’s not a Cornish pasty if it’s vegan.”

“It looks disgusting,” he continued, before telling viewers: “Cornish pasties have meat in them, that’s why they’re called Cornish pasties.”

Bored of her co-host’s antics, Reid took a segment of the pasty and brandished it under Morgan’s nose, telling him: “Shove that in your great Sussex doughnut hole!”

Reid’s forthright comeback prompted a burst of laughter from the production team, her colleague Charlotte Hawkins, guest presenter Peter Andre and even Morgan himself.

Despite previously sticking up for vegans against her co-star’s ire, Reid admitted that she “won’t eat that” as Morgan scathingly suggested that “no one will buy” the product.

Morrisons’ pasty is handmade in Cornwall and features vegan mince, potato, swede and onion wrapped in pastry.

Morgan has made no secret of his dislike of vegan products and previously embarked on an extensive tirade directed at Greggs’ vegan sausage rolls, branding the high street bakery chain “PC-ravaged clowns” and appearing to "throw up" after sampling the product live on air.

He went on to slam Gordon Ramsay’s new vegan roast dinner as “utterly revolting” and claimed that a gelatine-free version of Marks and Spencer’s much-loved Percy Pigs “tastes like washing up liquid.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV from 6am.
