More than 300 line dance enthusiasts from over 20 countries will be competing in the Thailand Open Line Dance WorldCDF, to take place at the Ratchadaphisek Ballroom, 2nd floor of the Bazaar Hotel, Ratchadaphisek Road, this Saturday and Sunday, 8am-5pm.

Held in collaboration with the World Country Dance Federation (WorldCDF), the two-day tournament will see unique dance styles by teams of at least two dancers from Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Finland, Norway, Czech Republic, China, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the US and many more.

Contestants are required to dance to the main song as well as a song of their preference. The winning team will receive a trophy, a certificate and a chance to compete in the Berlin Open in Germany.

Not quite familiar to Thais, line dancing is a style group dance in which participants stand side-by-side in one or more lines as they perform a repeated sequence of steps in unison. It's an exercise suitable for people of all ages.

However, the tournament will open with a gala dinner tomorrow at the same venue, where a dance floor will be open for all guests to show off their dance moves.

From 6-11pm, the evening will feature a special show by Nawat "Pong" Kulrattanarak, as well as an ancient muay Thai show by top boxers Somrak Kumsing, Manas Boonchamnong and Vichai Rachanon.

Those who buy tickets to the gala dinner will receive free line dance training with professional instructors from WorldCDF. The workshop will be held on Sunday at 3pm, also at the hotel.

There is no admission fee to view the competition this weekend, but tickets to the dinner tomorrow cost 2,500 baht and include a chance to win prizes.

Proceeds will go towards Samitivej's New Life Fund, to provide underprivileged children with access to high-quality surgical treatments.
