'Get in Celtic's face' Derek McInnes sounds Aberdeen battle cry ahead of semi final showdown

Derek McInnes has backed his Aberdeen side to knock Celtic out their stride and book a fourth cup final spot in three years.

The Dons head to Hampden on Sunday looking to avenge November's agonising 1-0 Betfred Cup Final defeat to the Hoops.

And McInnes knows his players are getting closer to the champions who are closing in on an incredible treble Treble.

Celtic have won three of the four meetings between the sides this season - but they have all been by a single goal. And the goalless draw at Celtic Park last month was as comfortable as the Dons have been at Parkhead in recent seasons.

Ahead of Sunday's clash at the national stadium, McInnes challenged his side to show the same confidence as they did in dumping Rangers in the quarter final at Ibrox.

He said: "I always feel in these types of games that it’s important to let the opposition know you’re in their face.

"An Aberdeen team should always have that confidence to go and play.

"In the league cup semi against Rangers the supporters were outnumbered, but let us know we were there.

"I’m sure we’ll hear them again on Sunday and hopefully we hear them at the end of the game celebrating."

The Dons - who will be without suspended skipper Graeme Shinnie - are third favourites to go on and lift the trophy behind Celtic and Hearts.

But McInnes reckons his side can go the whole way and end a 29-year wait to lift the Scottish Cup.

"The intention when we enter the competition is to win it and now there’s only four teams left.

"We overcame that hurdle at Ibrox and we showed we can deal with these types of games. It’s exciting for supporters, players and staff."
