"Get him out!": Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer is thrown out of pub by sweary landlord following awkward confrontation

It should have been the most pleasant of walkabouts in Bath city centre, as the sun shone and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer was on a walkabout as part of the local election campagin.

As he headed to the Raven pub, he was probably looking forward to a friendly shandy from landlord Rod Humphris.

It didn't quite go to plan.

As he approached the premises, while drinkers watched on, Mr Humphris held up a sheet of paper and started berating the Labour leader about the average age of people who had died in the coronavirus pandemic.

Then, as Sir Keir walked into the pub doorway, he told he was not welcome.

In the full glare of the TV cameras and press photographers and journalists capturing every word.

The landlord shouted “that man is not allowed in my pub” and “get out of my pub” as Sir Keir, wearing a black face mask, calmly walked out of the door, as the incident was captured on camera by reporters.

Mr Humphris, landlord of the Raven pub, which is located in the centre of Bath, appeared to be held back by security guards during the incident with Sir Keir Starmer.

On why he kicked the Labour leader out of the pub, the 54-year-old said: “I had heard that the Labour Party were coming round and he turned up and I told him what I thought of him, basically.

“I think he has utterly failed us as the leader of the Opposition, he has completely failed to ask the questions that needed asking, like, why did we throw away our previous pandemic preparedness?

“Why have we just accepted lockdown?

“Why have we just accepted the loss of all our freedoms?”
