The Rig: First look at Martin Compston in new series filmed in Edinburgh

Martin Compston fans rejoice-you can now have a first look at his new thrilling series, The Rig.

And it looks like it is going to be intense.

The Line of Duty star has recently said goodbye to nicking 'bent coppers' and starred in BBC's Vigil as a sailor for the Royal Navy.

And next up he will be playing Fulmer in The Rig.

The six-part Amazon Prime Video series recently finished filming in Edinburgh and Martin stayed in the city for the process.

First-look images have offered a glimpse at Martin Compston starring in new thriller, The Rig.

The Rig tells the story of a North Sea oil rig off the Scottish coast which gets cut off from all communication with the shore and the outside world due to earth tremors.

After fans were shocked with his air time on Vigil, Martin took to Twitter to reassure his followers.

After sharing a series of photos from The Rig, he added: "Can confirm I don’t die in first ten minutes, after that it’s every boiler suit for themselves."

So that's a sigh of relief!

In a statement from the programme makers, they said: "As the crew endeavour to discover what's driving this unknown force, a major accident forces them to ask questions about who they can really trust,"

The added: "The crew will be driven to the limits of both their loyalties and their endurance, into a confrontation with forces beyond their imagination."

The series, which was filmed entirely in Scotland, has been created by David Macpherson and is directed by John Strickland.

The new images show Compston's character working on board the rig.

The series also stars Game Of Thrones actor Iain Glen, Schitt's Creek star Emily Hampshire and Small Axe's Rochenda Sandall.

BBC's Guilt Mark Bonnar has also grabbed a role as Alwyn.

Owen Teale, Richard Pepple, Calvin Demba, Emun Elliott, Abraham Popoola, Stuart McQuarrie and Molly Vevers also star in the series.

Edinburgh Live reported that while on set Martin Compston got his co-star Emily Hampshire to try Irn Bru-a true Scottish delicacy.

Emily, 39, told STV News: "I've been drinking a lot of Irn-Bru because Martin made me try it.

"At first I was like 'no because I really like Coke Zero and Diet Coke' and he was like 'no you have to' and he forced me to.

"And basically it was like a drug dealer forcing me to try my first hit. And now I'm addicted."

And when they weren't drinking Irn Bru, The Sweet Sixteen star was also spotted in Rose Street Garden where an iconic cocktail was made in honor of him after a fan ordered a drink to his table.

Rose Street Garden now serve a 'Compston-politan'.

So even when he is not in Edinburgh filming, we will still have a piece of Martin left in the city.

The Rig will be out on Amazon Prime in 2022.
