'Get a grip' - Chairman sends blunt Jude Bellingham message to Liverpool

Liverpool signing Jude Bellingham next summer is "never going to happen", according to the chairman of Peterborough United.

Darragh MacAnthony is not only the main man at League One side The Posh, but also a well known supporter of the Reds. However, despite his stated allegiance to Anfield, the 46-year-old has talked down the prospect of his beloved Liverpool landing £130m-rated Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, suggesting he will instead join one of European football's super-rich clubs.

Speaking on the Hard Truth podcast, MacAnthony said: “Do people seriously think Liverpool are signing Jude Bellingham? Get a grip! With Man City, Chelsea and the wealth out there, Real Madrid, you think Bellingham is going to Liverpool? Don’t waste your time on that one, it’s never going to happen.

“That boy, I think he’ll go to Man City, they’ll sell Bernardo Silva to Barcelona, Gundogan will go back to Germany and spend their money.”

Bellingham has quickly become one of the most sought-after players in European football, with the 19-year-old widely regarded as an outstanding all-round midfielder. Jurgen Klopp is expected to overhaul his Liverpool midfield next summer and Bellingham is rumoured to be his number one target.

The Reds have already seen one engine room wish-list man escape their clutches when former Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni joined Real Madrid in the summer, preferring Los Blancos to Merseyside.

Bellingham is under contract with Bundesliga club Dortmund until 2024 and is likely to spark a brutal bidding war for his services come the end of the season. The teenager already has 17 caps for England and is expected to playing a starring role for the Three Lions at the World Cup in Qatar this winter.
