THE beginning of June marks the start of "beanie season," a time when the Mark Hughes Foundation keeps heads - and hearts - warm with the kick-off of its major annual fundraiser.
In its quest for a cure for brain cancer, the Mark Hughes Foundation has begun selling beanies ahead of the NRL's Beanie for Brain Cancer Round from June 18 to 21. Last year the campaign raised $3.5 million.
Mark Hughes said he understood many people had fallen on tough times this year due to the drought, bushfires and coronavirus.
"I appreciate not everyone will be in a position to buy a beanie and fully understand this," he said. "But if you are, we need your support more than ever.
"It will take a massive effort to sell our 150,000 beanies this year, but with the rugby league community behind us, with you behind us, we feel that some beanie magic can happen this year."
Beanies are now available online from markhughesfoundation.com.au, Lowes Australia stores, and selected IGA stores.
