Gerwyn Price misses out on making darts history at PDC World Championship thanks to Peter Wright but pockets huge sum

Welsh darts star Gerwyn Price has missed out on making the PDC World Championship after suffering semi-final defeat to Peter Wright 6-3.

Scotsman Wright is in the final for the first time since 2014, when he finished the competition as runner-up.

Former rugby player Price, nicknamed 'The Iceman', had gone into the hugely-anticipated encounter as the odds-on favourite, but was ruthlessly beaten by Wright in the disappointing yet frosty clash, with Price never seeming to really get going.

Price had faced the prospect of becoming the first Welshman to reach the final in its 26-year history - and gaining the chance to win half a million pounds - if he had managed to beat Wright at Alexandra Palace on Monday night.

However, in reaching the semi-finals, the former Neath, Cross Keys and Glasgow Warriors hooker, has guaranteed himself a £100,000 in winnings.

Had he won on Monday, he would have pocketed a guaranteed £200,000 after the semi-final.

The two-times Grand Slam champion surpassed his previous best at the PDC World Championship when reaching the last 32 back in 2018.
