Gerwyn Price just won 14 matches, two titles and a huge sum of money in one weekend

Gerwyn Price continued his impressive start to 2019 by winning an incredible 14 matches in a row to land back-to-back Players Championship titles.

The former Welsh rugby star has made a fine start to his second ever Premier League campaign, claiming four points from a possible six from his opening three matches.

And he maintained his rich vein of form away from the TV screens in Barnsley at the weekend by tasting glory in both of the Players Championship 5 & 6 events.

Price defeated compatriot Jonny Clayton and overcame the likes of Ian White and Dave Chisnall before beating Gabriel Clemens to win Players Championship 5 on Saturday, landing £10,000 in prize money for doing so.

And Wales' No. 1 ranked player claimed his second title in as many days by beating Ricky Evans 8-4 in the Players Championship 6 final on Sunday.

It meant Price ended the weekend with £20,000 in prize money while he increased his overall tally of PDC titles to six.

"This weekend I proved to myself and a lot of people that I can play top quality darts," said Price.

"It's all a case of having confidence in myself, believing in my ability and I think I played phenomenally well all day.

"I'm happy with my consistency over the weekend and I couldn't have asked for a better way to win it than with a 170.

"Hopefully now I can carry this form into the Premier League and I can keep performing to this standard and win another TV title along the way."

Price ended the weekend with an unblemished record of 14 wins from his 14 matches, averaging more than 100 in 10 of those games.

It saw him become only the 13th Pro Tour double-header winner in history.

The Welshman - currently ranked seventh in the world - returns to action in the Premier League in Exeter on Thursday night before going for glory at the UK Open in Minehead at the weekend.
