Gerry Hutch allowed mingle with pals on prison landing after Covid quarantine ends

Gerry Hutch is finally allowed to mingle with pals on a designated prison landing after his time in Covid quarantine ended.

The 58-year-old is on remand at Dublin’s Wheatfield Prison following his high-profile extradition from Spain.

He was allowed out of his cell on Tuesday having spent five days in isolation with all his meals served to him as he wasn’t allowed to interact with any other inmates.

A source told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “He’s on a landing that has additional security.

“Hutch will also be able to avail of in-cell learning and has his own TV. He will now also be allowed to use the prison gym once a week and exercise every other day.”

Hutch has been charged with the murder of 34-year-old David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in Dublin on February 5, 2016.

There are currently about six men in the same prison unit, including father and son Patrick and Jonathan Dowdall, both charged in connection with the Regency killing.

Prosecutors expect the murder trial to last up to three months – making it the longest in the history of the State.

Court documents show that 12 weeks have been set aside for the trial at the non-jury Special Criminal Court, due to start on October 3 next year.
