Germany vs Argentina: Prediction, lineups, odds, live stream, TV channel, H2H - international friendly preview

Germany vs Argentina
International friendly
Venue: Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund

Date: Wednesday, October 9
Kick-off time: 7:45pm BST

In a rematch of the 2014 World Cup final, Germany welcome Argentina to Signal Iduna Park as they aim to take the bragging rights once again.

Joachim Low's side edged a close encounter with Mario Gotze's extra-time winner proving to be decisive in Rio de Janeiro.

The Albiceleste have undergone a huge shake-up since then, with Lionel Messi retiring from international football and then making a U-turn.

Now under the guidance of former coach Lionel Scaloni, once on the books at West Ham United, the Latin American side are out for revenge five years later.

Read on for our comprehensive preview...

Predicted line-up

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan (muscle) and centre-back Jonathan Tah (ilness) have been ruled out for the friendly, leaving Germany boss Joachim Low with a long injury list.

Dortmund striker Marco Reus is also a doubt for the clash following a knee injury and may not be risked, Low revealed in his pre-match press conference.

“We will have to see. He will train this evening and then we will see if it makes sense to use him.

“It is not a situation I wished and would want. It is not an ideal situation. It is rare to have so many absences.”

Scaloni took the unusual step of announcing his Argentina lineup a day before the game, with Premier League quartet Juan Foyth, Nicolas Otamendi, Marcos Rojo and Roberto Pererya all set to start.

Germany XI: Ter Stegen; Stark, Sule, Koch; Klostermann, Kimmich, Rudy, Halstenberg; Gnabry, Brandt; Reus.

Argentina XI: Marchesin; Foyth, Otamendi, Rojo, Tagliafico; Pereyra, Paredes, De Paul, Angel Correa; Dybala, Martinez.

Prediction: Germany 1-1 Argentina

Germany's injury crisis means they are down to the bare bones against Argentina, a side blessed with the individual talents of Paulo Dybala and Lautaro Martinez in attack.

Based on their recent form, the hosts would be favourites to take this but may find life difficult with an untested side at international level.
