Germany has stopped processing some applications for asylum by Syrian refugees, according to a report on Saturday.
The German Interior Ministry was quoted as saying that the decisions on some asylum applications from Syrians have been 'postponed,' AFP reported.
According to the report, those affected are Syrians granted subsidiary protection.
There are certain changes expected to be made to its internal guideline, the ministry said.
The decision is currently pending a new assessment of the security situation in Syria, which has not been announced yet.
German's Interior Ministry is seeking an agreement with the Foreign Ministry on the security situation in Syria. The Foreign Ministry is responsible for assessing the security situation there.
At the end of 2018, the Foreign Ministry submitted a "situation report" on Syria stating that "there is no comprehensive, long-term and reliable protection for persecuted persons in any part of Syria."
According to government figures, 17,411 Syrians were awarded the status in 2018.
