Germany shooting: Suspect in Hanau attack found dead in home with another body taking death toll to 11

A suspect in a pair of shootings which saw nine people killed in the German city of Hanau has been found dead at his home, police said.

Another body was found at the home of the man in the same city, which sits east of Frankfurt.

"There are no indications that other suspects were involved," police said on Twitter.

Five further young people, including a woman, are thought to have been left in critical condition after the two shooting incidents at around 10pm local time on Wednesday.

Gunmen are understood to have opened fire at the two lounges before fleeing in a dark coloured car.

At least three people were killed at Midnight shisha bar in Hanau's Kesselstadt neighbourhood, with the gunmen then driving to the Arena Bar & Cafe, shooting dead five more people, reports Hessenschau.

A ninth victim of the attack died in the hours after, but it is unclear at which location they were shot.

Photos from the scene of the shooting show officers arresting a man as special units were hunting an unknown number of others involved who then remained at large.

Initial German media report suggest that the violence is likely to be gang related, but this has not been officially confirmed.

Witnesses have described hearing eight or nine shots fired at Kurt-Schumacher-Platz, a central square in Kesselstadt, during one of the incidents, according to reports.

Bild reports the alleged perpetrator's car is being examined by specialists, with ammunition, magazines and a holster said to have been found inside.

The newspaper said the man is understood to have had a hunting licence and is of German nationality.

The owner of one of the bars is understood to have been one of those killed.

A shooter is said to have rung the bell of one of the bars, then shot wildly into the smoking area and inside the building, according to Bild.
