MUMBAI: Germany saw a rise of over 200% in Indian tourist arrivals in the first five months of 2022 as compared to 2021, according to data released by the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) on Thursday.
Germany accounted for 9% of European trips taken by Indians in this period. Of the 1.6 lakh Indians who visited Germany up to May — a 213 % rise than 2021 — 55% travelled for leisure and 38% for business. Romit Theophilus, GNTO director, said: “Eight hours gate-to-gate and with multiple daily flight routes from India to cities such as Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart, Germany has long been favoured by the Indian traveller. An increase in travellers is expected this festive period in light of the relaxation of Covid-19 requirements.”
The numbers are still low when compared to pre-Covid years. In 2019, 3.8 lakh Indians visited Germany between January and May.
