Germany legend wary of Man City star Raheem Sterling for England fixture

Former German stalwart Lothar Matthaus has claimed that Raheem Sterling is the England man to fear ahead of Germany's crunch tie with England this evening.

The Euro 2020 last 16 tie between the two arch rivals is poised to be a great spectacle in front of more than 40,000 fans at Wembley, with England looking to beat Germany in a knockout tie for the first time since the famous 1966 World Cup final.

Speaking to Sky Sports this morning, ex Bayern Munich and Germany star Matthaus claimed it was Sterling who is the danger man and could make the difference.

"Sterling is one of the best players in the England team for me," he said.

"Rashford is also dangerous, but Sterling is in a better moment and we [Germany] have to control Sterling."

The ex-German defender who is currently the most capped player for his nation with 150 appearances had nothing but praise for the City winger.

Matthaus maintained that the lack of playing time for his club towards the end of the season can work in his favour.

He added: "He was not happy at the end of the season for Manchester City as he sat on the bench many times with Foden playing in his position.

"I think it's psychological motivation for him to show the world who is Sterling."
