The upcoming summer transfer window could prove to be a busy one as far as Chelsea are concerned.
The Blues, who will welcome Watford to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, aiming to put the midweek disappointments against West Ham United behind them, have already completed the signings of Ajax midfielder Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, as they aim to bridge the gap on the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City in the battle to win the Premier League title.
Despite having splashed out more than £80million to bring the duo to West London, the Blues are in no mood to call it a day in their quest to bolster their squad ahead of next season.
It is understood by football.london that Chelsea are keen to add Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell and Bayer Leverkusen midfield sensation Kai Havertz to their ranks before next season gets underway.
But bringing Havertz to Stamford Bridge is not likely to be a straightforward task for Chelsea and Frank Lampard, with the 21-year-old likely to demand a high transfer-fee, as well as being watched by Real Madrid.
However, if Chelsea were to win the race for the attacking-midfielder, who has scored 16 goals in 42 outings for Leverkusen this season, they would be inheriting a player that is tipped to reach the very, very top of world football.
According to Germany legend Lothar Matthaus, who will go down as one of Germany's greatest players of all-time, Havertz has the necessary qualities to one day be crowned "football of the year."
Speaking about Havertz last year, Matthaus told Kicker magazine, via Bundesliga.com: “He has set the bar very high – for me he was the player of the season.
“If Havertz can maintain this high standard, with his natural talent, cleverness, presence on the pitch, and goal threat, then he could someday follow me as world footballer of the year.”
Meanwhile, Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has admitted that the Bundesliga club have an agreement in place that will allow Havertz to leave the BayArena this summer.
"We have an agreement - if it fits, he can go this summer," Voller told German media outlet Bild.
"As of now, he is a player of ours. We have our ideas, we know what he can do. I personally hope that he stays one more year.
"Of course, you can't force anyone. Havertz knows what he owes to his colleagues, the fans and the club."
