Germany has outlasted Australia in a five-set doubles clash on Pat Rafter Arena to take a 2-1 lead in their Davis Cup tie in Brisbane.
The pairing of John Peers and Matt Ebden had a tough time, twice coming from a set down to force a deciding fifth set, before going down to Tim Puetz and Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4, 6-7 (7/1), 6-2, 6-7 (7/4), 6-4.
The loss for Peers and Ebden means Australia must win both of Sunday's reverse singles to clinch victory in the tie.
The teams had split the opening singles on Friday, with young Alex de Minaur pushing Alexander Zverev to five sets before losing 7-5, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7/4), before Nick Kyrgios struck back with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win over Struff.
More to come.
