Germany are considering implementing new restrictions and making major changes to quarantine rules.

Among the new measures being considered, people could be required to provide proof of either a booster shot or a fresh negative test to enter restaurants or bars.

Under current rules in Germany, people must show proof of full vaccination or recovery to enter certain venues.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the country’s 16 state governors are also expected to look at cutting the required time for quarantine or self-isolation, down from 14 days.

After Christmas, tighter restrictions were put in place including limiting private gatherings to 10 people.

While testing has been slower over the festive period, Germany’s vaccination campaign is regaining momentum now the holiday season has come to an end.

Meanwhile, at least 13 Covid-positive passengers dodged institutional quarantine after arriving in the Indian city of Amritsar from Italy.

Nine escaped from the airport while four made a run for it from a local hospital, city official Sherjang Singh told BBC Punjabi.

It remains unclear how they managed to make an escape.

Those travellers were among 125 infected people on a flight from Milan which had 160 people onboard.

The infected passengers have been admitted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital.

Police plan to cancel the passports of the escapees.

India reported more than 100,000 cases today as Omicron continues to spread.
