Germany chief delivers Timo Werner verdict Chelsea fans will love

German national team sporting director Oliver Bierhoff has said that a move to the Premier League will be a good thing for Timo Werner and his international career.

The Germany striker completed a deal to join Chelsea last month and will be part of the squad for the 2020/21 Premier League season.

Werner impressed in the Bundesliga this campaign, scoring 34 goals and providing a further 13 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions.

That form prompted Chelsea to make a move for the forward, with the Blues triggering a release clause in his contract at RB Leipzig.

However, one problem that some players face when joining the Premier League is adapting to the intensity of the division, but that is not something that worries Bierhoff, who himself played as a centre-forward for Germany.

"Not at all. I played close to my entire career outside Germany and I think it's a success to leave,” he told Marca when asked if he was worried about Werner leaving Germany.

“You grow more, become stronger, mature and evolve more. When you leave your comfort zone you usually progress. I loved playing abroad, I just wish I could have done it in Spain."

Werner became Frank Lampard’s second signing of the summer, after the arrival of Hakim Ziyech who joined from Ajax.

But, it doesn’t look like Lampard’s transfer business is done, with the Blues heavily linked with moves for Ben Chilwell and Kai Havertz.
