Germany boss Joachim Low makes statement on Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Manuel Neuer row

Joachim Low has urged Germany fans to be patient over Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and was adamant the goalkeeper would get his chance.

The Barcelona star remains stuck behind no.1 Manuel Neuer in the international pecking order, despite calls for ter Stegen to replace him between the sticks.

Neuer has amassed over 90 caps for Germany since his debut a decade ago, and was considered one of the top keepers in world football.

However his form has dipped in recent seasons following a nasty injury in 2017, and fans are now hopeful the 33-year-old will be moved aside in favour of his understudy.

But Low insisted the time will come for ter Stegen , just not right now.

“We all can just be happy to have two world-class goalkeepers with Neuer and Ter Stegen. And Kevin Trapp or Bernd Leno are also capable of outstanding performances,” Low told Bild .

“It's clear that every single one is ambitious and wants to play. We need and want this situation in the national team.

“Andreas Kopke and I will stick to our promise that Marc will get his chances.

"We fully understand his disappointment but it's like that - only one can play.

"We wanted to let him play in June but unfortunately he was slightly injured back then. And Manu has played very good games for us recently. He is our captain.”

Ter Stegen has just 22 caps for Germany despite being among the top three goalkeepers in the world.

He has been nominated alongside Liverpool's Alisson and Man City's Ederson for the FIFA Best Goalkeeper award for his impressive displays for his club side.

The 27-year-old kept 23 clean sheets last season for Barca in all competitions, but cannot force his way into Germany's first team reckoning for their Euro 2020 campaign.

Neuer has so far been preferred in qualifying, keeping three clean sheets in five games as Germany top their group.
