Germany boss Joachim Low admits Emre Can deserved red card in win over Estonia

Joachim Low admitted that Emre Can deserved to be sent off during Germany's 3-0 win over Estonia on Sunday.

The Juventus midfielder was shown a straight red card after just 14 minutes of the Euro 2020 qualifier in Tallinn for a rash challenge on Frank Liivak.

Can, 25, brought down the Estonia forward on the edge of the penalty area as he attempted to regain possession when he allowed the ball to run across him.

Referee Georgi Kabakov did not hesitate in dismissing the former Liverpool midfielder and Germany head coach Low had no complaints with the decision.

"Looking at the situation, you cannot award a yellow, it's a red card," Low said after the match.

Despite being down to 10-men for the majority of the match, two goals from Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan in the second half and a third from Timo Werner secured all three points for an injury-affected Germany team.

The result sees Low's side move level with Holland at the top of Group C and three points clear of Northern Ireland.

"Firstly, I'm happy we got the job done. It was tough work out there," Low said at his press conference.

"We had to regroup after the red card, the team did well after the break, we did not concede and scored three goals.

"The decisive factor was that we increased the tempo in the second half and kept calm.

"This week was not easy, with all the injuries and everything. We stayed calm and scored, so we are pleased."

After starting with Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the friendly 2-2 draw with Argentina last week, Manuel Neuer returned to the starting XI.

And the Bayern Munich stopper felt that his side dealt with their numerical disadvantage well.

"We were down to 10 men after 15 minutes, which makes everything more difficult as you have to reset," Neuer said according to dfb.de .

"Because of that, I didn't think it was a bad performance.

"It was a matter of time when the goals would eventually come. At some point we put them away."
