Germany and Sweden to be removed from government's safe travel corridor list

Germany and Sweden are to be removed from the government's list of safe countries.

The government's travel corridor is a list of countries, territories and regions from where you can travel to from England and may not have to self-isolate.

Countries, territories and regions can be taken off or added to the travel corridor list at any time.

The news comes on the first day of the UK's second national lockdown, which has seen all pubs, bars and restaurants close, though takeaways will be allowed, and all non-essential retail stores shut their doors until December 2.

Germany and Sweden will be removed from the travel corridors exempt list at 4am on Saturday, November 7.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps confirmed the news on Twitter today, writing: "In line with the new COVID-19 guidance, travel outside of home, with the exception of a limited number of reasons including work or education, is not permitted during lockdown. #TRAVELCORRIDORS do remain critical to the Government’s COVID-19 response, keeping imported cases DOWN."

He added: "We are removing SWEDEN and GERMANY from the Travel Corridor list. From 4am Saturday 7th November, if you arrive into the UK from these destinations you will need to self-isolate. All arriving passengers should complete a passenger locator form on arrival.

"We are NOT adding any countries to the list of TRAVEL CORRIDORS this week. TRAVEL CORRIDORS remain open for those returning to the UK."

Under national restrictions in England, you can only travel abroad for work, education or other legally permitted reasons.
