Germany and Sweden now on the quarantine list for Brits

Sweden and Germany are the latest destinations to be removed from the UK's travel corridors list.

This means that Brits who are returning from the countries after 4am on Saturday 7th November will need to quarantine for 14 days.

The decision comes following concerns over rising numbers of coronavirus cases in these destinations.

Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps shared the latest changes on Twitter.

He wrote: "In line with the new COVID-19 guidance, travel outside of home, with the exception of a limited number of reasons including work or education, is not permitted during lockdown. #TRAVELCORRIDORS do remain critical to the Government’s COVID-19 response, keeping imported cases DOWN.

"We are removing SWEDEN and GERMANY from the Travel Corridor list. From 4am Saturday 7th November, if you arrive into the UK from these destinations you will need to self-isolate. All arriving passengers should complete a passenger locator form on arrival.

"We are NOT adding any countries to the list of TRAVEL CORRIDORS this week. TRAVEL CORRIDORS remain open for those returning to the UK."

He also linked to the government website for those after more guidance.

It's worth noting that travel corridors and travel advice are not the same thing. Still, until now they've usually gone hand in hand, with the FCDO often changing its advice after the travel corridor updates are announced.

However in this scenario, any new changes to the travel corridors won't have an impact on any residents in England, because the second lockdown running from today (Thursday 5th November) until the 2nd December includes a ban on international travel.

That means that even if countries are added to the UK's travel corridors over the next few weeks, you won't be able to travel during lockdown.

Under the new restriction rules, the government says that those living in England 'cannot travel overseas or within the UK', although there are some exceptions such as for work or education - you can find out more on the government website here.
