Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund will once again face off in the 2019 German Super Cup as the country’s two most successful teams revive their rivalry in Der Klassiker. Die Roten have dominated the silverware in this fixture, winning seven German Super Cups in total, three of which they’ve clinched in the last three years. Dortmund is second on the trophy list with five victories, the most recent of which came in 2014.

Niko Kovac’s men won both the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal crown last season, meaning Dortmund qualified to play as the runner-up in the former.
However, the Black and Yellows aren’t to be underestimated following some savvy business this summer. They moved early in the window to sign forwards Thorgan Hazard and Julian Brandt, as well as defender Nico Schulz for a combined sum of around £65 million.
Lucien Favre’s side also completed the permanent signing of former loanee Paco Alcacer, as well as resigning star center-back Mats Hummels from Bayern.
Hummels’ first competitive match back at the Westfalenstadion will be against his old club, whom he left to join Dortmund for a second time—he first left the Allianz Arena in 2008. Bayern recruited Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard from Atletico Madrid and Stuttgart, to replace Hummels in central defense.
Kingsley Coman is questionable against Dortmund after he was injured in the Audi Cup final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, losing on penalties.
Robert Lewandowski scored back-to-back goals against Arsenal and Real Madrid earlier in the preseason and is hoping to rediscover his form against his old club.
