A dog owner reportedly didn’t “bat an eyelid” as his short haired Alsatian latched onto a passer-by's arm, leaving him covered in blood.
It is believed the dog bounded over to a man in his 40s and bit him on the arm in Wirral.
The incident took place in New Brighton on Wednesday, May 5 at 11.30am along New Brighton promenade, near to the Marine Point Complex.
Merseyside Police are investigating and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that officers are investigating following a dog bite incident in New Brighton yesterday, Wednesday 5 May.
“A man in his 40s was walking along New Brighton promenade near to the Marine Point Complex.
“He passed a black, short haired Alsatian being walked on a lead, which reportedly jumped up and bit the victim on the arm.
“The owner of the dog is described as in his 50s-60s, with grey hair, wearing jeans and a raincoat. Enquiries are ongoing.”
The victim was taken to hospital for his injuries to be assessed and cleaned, and later contacted police.
A Facebook post describing the incident read: “A short haired alsatian came bounding over and latched onto his arm.
“With his arm covered in blood. The owner didn't give a s*** or even bat an eyelid. The attack was completely unprovoked.
“It could easily have been a child or someone elderly or vulnerable.”
