German police return to area where Madeleine McCann was last seen

  • German police are set to conduct fresh searches in Portugal this week in connection with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, who vanished in 2007 from Praia Da Luz while on holiday with her family.
  • The searches will occur near where Madeleine was last seen. The Metropolitan Police are aware of the operation conducted by German authorities, but will not be present at the search.
  • In April, additional funding was approved for Scotland Yard detectives investigating Madeleine’s disappearance.
  • The prime suspect in the case is Christian Brueckner, currently imprisoned in Germany for an unrelated rape, who spent time in the Praia Da Luz area and has denied involvement in Madeleine's disappearance.
  • Madeleine’s family recently marked the 18th anniversary of her disappearance, expressing their continued determination to keep searching for her.
