German giants Schalke lining up shock £10m-plus bid for Cardiff City star - reports

German giants Schalke are lining up a £10million-plus bid for Cardiff City winger Josh Murphy, according to reports.

The Bundesliga outfit are reportedly interested in adding the 24-year-old to their squad - with new manager David Wagner having supposedly grown fond of the winger during his time at Huddersfield.

FootballInsider247.com report that Schalke have made the former Norwich man their number-one target this summer.

The Bluebirds signed Murphy for £11million at the start of last season and would be keen to recoup that fee if they were going to sell after just one campaign.

Despite only registering three goals and two assists from 22 Premier League starts last year, Murphy showed enough in the top flight to spark interest from bigger clubs.

Chelsea were rumoured to be watching Murphy before they lost their appeal over a transfer ban imposed by FIFA.

Were Murphy to join Schalke, he would be the latest in a line of young British players to move to Germany.

In recent years, young players such as England international Jadon Sancho and Wales star Rabbi Matondo have swapped plying their trade in the UK to sample the Bundesliga.
