'German genius!' - Manchester United fans go crazy as Ralf Rangnick appointment confirmed

Manchester United have confirmed the appointment as Ralf Rangnick as their new interim manager.

The experienced German coach, 63, has signed a six-month contract at Old Trafford and will take charge as soon as his work visa requirements have been completed.

The former RB Leipzig boss, who has been poached from Russian giants Lokomotiv Moscow, will oversee first-team responsibilities until the end of the season, before moving upstairs into a consultancy position.

United had sounded Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino to succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but the club saw its attempt to lure the Argentine to Old Trafford mid-season rejected, meaning they reverted back to their original plan of bringing in an interim boss.

In Rangnick, United have secured a vastly experienced coach, as well as an experienced head in an off-field capacity, with the former Schalke chief having overseen recruitment and a wealth of other responsibilities during his time as director of football at both Leipzig and sister club Red Bull Salzburg.

With Rangnick's arrival at Old Trafford having now officially been confirmed, United's supporters have been reacting to his arrival at the club. Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look to see what they have been saying in the immediate aftermath of the German's arrival in the Premier League.

As you can see from the comments displayed above, United's decision to turn to Rangnick to replace Solskjaer has attracted a very positive and encouraging response.

The supporters clearly believe that United, moving forward, will benefit massively from Rangnick's past experience and footballing knowledge, which has proven to be so successful in recent years.

Although he may only be tasked with taking charge of the first-team for a few months, the German's knowhow in a consultancy role could prove invaluable, meaning he could be the brains behind the next chapter that United are looking to open.
